Major investment in local schools has today been announced by Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Secretary Kirsty Williams.
Part of the deal involving Kirsty Williams becoming Education Secretary included “prioritising schools access to super-fast broadband within the national programme”. Now, 341 schools across Wales are set to get superfast broadband thanks to additional funding.
Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrat Group on Powys County Council, Cllr James Gibson-Watt, said;
"It is essential that our teachers have access to the best resources so they can provide our children with an excellent education.
"Eleven schools across Powys will benefit from this investment, ensuring that digital skills become a key component of the curriculum in Wales, preparing our children for the future.
"The Welsh Liberal Democrats have consistently put education first, and I am proud that it is Kirsty Williams in Government delivering a national mission of education reform raising standards across all our schools."
Commenting, Kirsty Williams said;
“I am committed to making sure all our schools have the resources they need to give our children the best start in life. That is why I announced £5 million of extra investment to make sure all our schools have superfast broadband speeds as a minimum and I am delighted 341 schools will benefit from this.
“Making sure every school, no matter where they are based, has access to superfast broadband remains a priority for me. We must ensure that every school and every child is able to access the very best resources and the right environment to develop essential digital skills and continue to raise standards."
