The closure of Meadows Medical Practice in Knighton is to go ahead on 24th December.
Patients will, however, have the option to attend Clun surgery, after the threat of compulsory deregistration was avoided. This comes after further discussion took place between Meadows Medical Practice, Wylcwm Street Surgery, Presteigne Medical Centre, Powys teaching Health Board, and NHS England (also representing Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group).
Commenting on the news, Kirsty Williams AM said:
"Unfortunately, the closure of the surgery will go ahead on 24th December. However, patients registered at the practice will now be able to access the main premises in Clun. The original proposals would not have given patients this option.
I am glad that further discussions took place and that the threat of compulsory deregistration has been seen off. The initial proposals were not acceptable,... people in Knighton made that very clear to me and I made sure those views were heard.
I hope the improved proposals offer at least some consolation to patients, although the upcoming closure of the surgery will undoubtedly be another blow for the town".
