After meetings with Wales’ two farming unions, Kirsty Williams has re-emphasised the importance of avoiding a no-deal Brexit - saying “the Conservative Government need to avoid a no-deal Brexit at all costs.”
On the evening of Monday 21st January Kirsty met the Welsh Council of NFU Cymru, and on the morning of Tuesday 22nd January she joined the Farmers’ Union of Wales at their Farmhouse Breakfast event. NFU Cymru and FUW have consistently stressed the need to avoid a no-deal Brexit.
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“Our farmers hold particular importance here in Brecon and Radnorshire and I continue to enjoy constructive relationships with representative bodies like NFU Cymru and FUW.
“Understandably, both organisations have expressed concerns about the potential of a no-deal Brexit. Just last week FUW called for a withdrawal of Article 50 to avoid a no-deal scenario and safeguard the future of the agricultural industry.
“I heard these concerns once again this week. They are concerns I share in the strongest possible terms. The Conservative Government need to avoid a no-deal Brexit at all costs, and those in their Party who are actively advocating a no-deal scenario should stop acting so irresponsibly.”
