Kirsty Williams has welcomed the news that the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team will soon benefit from ultrafast broadband.
The depot is located in Penwyllt, above the Swansea valley in the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency, and the new connection will further improve its search and rescue capabilities. Previously, limited connectivity had left it relying on more traditional telephone and paper-based systems.
The rescue team recently attracted international attention and recognition following their involvement in the successful rescue of a football team and their coach from a cave in Thailand.
Kirsty has been involved in efforts to improve the broadband connection, recently writing to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport whose response confirmed the improvements.
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“The rescue team do such great work and I’m pleased to see this improved connection being secured. It’s an issue I’ve been pursuing and I’m pleased my letter to the Minister for Digital has prompted some action.
“I recently visited the team and heard about how better broadband would help them, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the improvements this new connection will bring for this valuable service.”
