Kirsty seeks views on the future of the free TV license for people over 75

People over 75 are currently entitled to a free TV license, but the Westminster Government are ending the funding for this.

The BBC are considering the options available to them and are running a consultation.

The options they have outlined are as follows:

  • Picking up the cost themselves, likely leading to cuts to current programmes and services.
  • Restoring a universal license fee, meaning there would be no free TV license for older age groups.
  • Reforming the concession, for example providing a discount, changing the starting age, or focusing on those in greater financial need.
