Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, has pledged her support for WWF’s Earth Hour campaign.

The Earth Hour campaign unites people to send a message about the importance of the future of the planet. Each year people across the world switch off their lights for 60 minutes and organise events in their communities. Last year over 400,000 people in Wales took part.

This year Earth Hour will take place on Saturday 30th March, 8.30pm-9.30pm.

Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:

“Earth Hour encourages people to come together and send a clear message that the future of our planet is something we need to worry about, and something we need to act on.

"Taking care of the planet and the environment around us is a responsibility we have to future generations. Liberal Democrats acknowledge our environmental responsibilities and our party wants to live up to them.

“I will be joining those switching their lights off for Earth Hour and would encourage people in Brecon and Radnorshire and beyond to do the same if they can.”

WWF Cymru Director Anne Meikle commented:

“We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world. And almost certainly the last that can do anything about it. It is not too late, but we can no longer simply switch off to the world’s destruction and watch nature disappear. Instead we need to switch off for Earth Hour and create a powerful collective voice to call for real action to protect our planet.”
