Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Member of the Senedd for Brecon & Radnorshire, has expressed her shock after flash floods devastated properties in Ystradgynlais, Abercraf and Lower Cwmtwrch.
Sustained heavy rain caused water and debris to cascade down hillsides on 17th August. Impacted residents have been receiving assistance from their friends and neighbours, local volunteers Powys County Council staff and Mid and West Wales Fire Brigade.

Commenting, Kirsty said:
“I am shocked at the extent of the damage and my heart goes out to all those constituents who are affected.
“2020 has been difficult enough for everyone as it is, without the added disruption, stress and worry caused by this flooding.
“I want to praise the efforts of all those who have been working to provide help.
“I would strongly recommend contacting your insurer, who can provide advice and support on emergency payments and the repair process. The Association of British Insurers also gives advice on making insurance claims after a flooding incident.
“I have written to Powys County Council asking for details on further action they intend to take to prevent and mitigate further flooding incidents in these communities.
“Any resident experiencing difficulties can get in touch with me and your local Welsh Liberal Democrat team. We are here for residents needing help.”
