Kirsty met with the Chief Executive of the Wye Valley NHS Trust at Hereford Hospital, to discuss the state of cross-border healthcare.
Following this meeting it emerged that the future of stroke services at Hereford Hospital was under question.
Wye Valley trust say they are “considering the future of stroke services” at Hereford Hospital, with moving the services to Worcester a possibility.
Every year around 60 Powys patients access stroke services at Hereford. If these services aren’t available at Hereford those patients may be forced to travel another 30 miles.
Kirsty Williams and James Gibson-Watt (County Councillor for Glasbury and leader of the Liberal Democrats on Powys County Council) launched a joint petition against the closure, which can be found here - http://www.brlibdems.org.uk/save_stroke_services_at_hereford_hospital?recruiter_id=13571
“Conservative neglect of our NHS is felt all too strongly in Brecon & Radnorshire, as so many of our patients access services across the border.
“It is important to show public opposition to the possibility of the services being moved, and I will ensure people’s views are being heard.”
