Council tax reduction awareness campaign backed by AM

An awareness raising campaign highlighting how some people may be missing out on support with council tax bills has been backed by Kirsty Williams, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire.

People may be eligible to pay less council tax if they:

  • Live on a low income
  • Live alone, or with people or children who do not pay council tax
  • Are a student
  • Are disabled
  • Are a carer
  • Are mentally impaired

The awareness raising is a joint campaign between the Welsh Government, local authorities, MoneySavingExpert.com and third sector organisations.

An eligibility checker is available at http://gov.wales/counciltaxhelp

Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:

“At the moment too many people who are entitled to support are missing out on it. This includes our most vulnerable.

“I would encourage everyone to consider their own circumstances, consider the circumstances of the people they know, and help spread the word about the council tax reductions that may be available.”
