AM and Councillor welcome flood money for Talgarth

12.00.00am GMT Thu 11th Feb 2010

Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire has welcomed an announcement from Environment Minister Jane Davidson that will award funding for flood management on the River Ennig at Talgarth.

Five new flood risk management projects have been announced as part of an extra £6million allocation from the European Union's Competitiveness Programme, with one of the announced projects on the River Ennig in Talgarth.

Kirsty Williams said: "I am delighted that the Assembly Government has recognised the risk that flooding poses to the town of Talgarth, and after recent flooding events, this money is welcome indeed. I hope that the works can be carried out as soon as possible to offer some piece of mind to Talgarth residents."

Cllr William Powell, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Talgarth said: " This is fantastic news for Talgarth. The River Ennig has always been closely linked to the town's story, from medieval times when Talgarth was capital of Brycheiniog right up to the present day. Memories of the devastating floods of 1998 are still very much in people's minds locally. This investment will be welcomed by residents and businesses alike- and I look forward to working with them to ensure this EU money is well spent.'
