AM calls for community stroke care services in Powys

1.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 9th Jul 2008

Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire today called upon the Minister for Health to make money available for stroke care in the community in Powys.

Kirsty Williams commented: "This is an issue that is very close to my heart as my own mother had a stroke and I know personally how crucial rehabilitation services are to stroke victims and their families.

"It is essential that rehabilitation services are made as accessible to patients as possible and community care is the best way to do this. There must be a seamless transfer of care from hospitals to the community to ensure that stroke patients, their families and carers receive the support they need.

"Powys Local Health Board is looking to develop this service and I am calling upon the Assembly Government to support them in this important move."
