Minister offers hope for securing test centre in mid Wales3.00.00pm GMT Wed 18th Jun 2008 A Powys delegation has today met with the Deputy First Minister to propose plans to secure a multi purpose test centre for Llandrindod Wells. The DSA is currently proposing to close 13 Motor Cycle Test Centres across Wales which would leave mid Wales without a single test centre. Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon & Radnorshire today took Jonathan Halliday, Director of Riders Edge, Mark Kerr, Chief Executive of Powys County Council, and Cllr Michael Jones, Chairman of the Board to meet Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Economy and Transport to present the alternative plans. "We were very grateful for the meeting which was very positive. Jonathan Halliday has worked exceptionally hard with Powys County Council officials to come up with a detailed and strategic business report with workable alternatives for a multi-purpose test centre in Llandrindod Wells. "The business plan has highlighted the numerous economic benefits associated with the acquisition of a fifth Multi Purpose Test Centre facility in Wales and makes a very strong case for finding a site for a new test centre. "Today's meeting has shown that with all levels working together we can secure the facilities we need in mid Wales. "We will now move forward to have further meetings with Welsh Assembly Government officials in order to fully explore the alternative proposals." Notes: Ends/diwedd
