Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Education, has this morning been elected chair of the Proposed Healthy Eating in Schools Measure Committee. The Measure - introduced by Welsh Liberal Democrat colleague Jenny Randerson - seeks to introduce healthier school meals which will provide children with at least a third of their daily nutritional needs. The Committee will scrutinise all aspects of the Measure.

Kirsty Williams, Brecon and Radnorshire AM said:

"I am delighted to be chairing a measure on such an important issue. This will be an opportunity for the Assembly to make a real difference in children's lives.

"Our work now as a scrutiny committee will be to consider the needs for a Measure on healthy eating in schools and look at how the Proposed Measure will work effectively and efficiently.

"We will be opening a consultation on healthier schools meals and I urge all those who have an interest to submit their responses to the consultation."
