Bus misery for Powys passengers

9.22.02am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Aug 2007

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed her concern at the growing number of constituents having problems with bus services in the area.

There appears to be growing dissatisfaction with public transport provision, with buses failing to turn up and timetables changing without prior notice being given to passengers.

Ms Williams said: "There has definitely been an increase in the number of complaints I'm receiving about bus services in Powys, and I am seeking an urgent meeting with the Council to try and resolve these issues. Residents in Llangorse and Pennorth are currently stranded in their communities, unable to get to Brecon; elderly pensioners in Rhayader and Penycae tell me the current public transport provision just isn't meeting their needs. We need a safe and reliable public transport system, making journeys people want (or need) to take. Public transport in Powys just isn't delivering, and action now needs to be taken to improve the situation for all concerned."
