Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has been shortlisted for a Dods 'Woman of the Year' award.
The party's Economic Development spokesperson and Business Manager at the Assembly has been shortlisted in the Assembly Member of the Year category for her effective scrutiny of Ministers and pivotal role in organising the informal coalition of opposition parties which has inflicted several key defeats on the Labour Assembly Government.
Ms Williams said: "I am delighted, and extremely flattered, to be nominated for this award, alongside two other extremely hard-working AMs. These awards play an important role in recognising the work women are doing in a variety of political fields, and I am pleased to be able to play a small part in that.
"There is still a perception that politics is dominated by middle-aged white men, and I've always believed that is important that young women are offered as many positive role models as possible, to show that there really is no barrier to what they can achieve."
Notes:
· Ms Williams was shortlisted by a judging panel, and now faces a vote of all parliamentarians before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday March 8th.
· The other two women shortlisted for 'Assembly Member of the Year', which will be awarded to nominee deemed "the most effective female politician in a devolved assembly who has done much to positively raise the standing of their assembly both internally and with the public", are Lisa Francis and Trish Law.
· Further information on the awards is available at "http://www.dods.co.uk/womansawards/ ".
