Kirsty welcomes Radnor Scouts to the Assembly

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has welcomed a delegation of Scouts and Scout leaders from the constituency to the National Assembly for Wales.

Scouts from across Wales had come to the Assembly to raise awareness of the Scouting movement as part of their centenary year celebrations.

Ms Williams said: "Organisations such as the Scouts and the Girl Guides are really important - they give young people the opportunity to learn new skills and interact with different groups of people, as well as have a lot of fun. I would particularly like to commend all the volunteers who give their time as Scout Leaders, or who help the movement in other ways.

"I was delighted that some of the Scouts from my constituency were able to make the trip to Cardiff today, and hope that they had an enjoyable and worthwhile trip."

The Welsh Scouts Council had an exhibit at the Assembly today, as part of their centenary year (Robert Baden-Powell held the first ever scout camp in 1907).

Scouting in Wales currently serves some 12,000 young people, supported by 5,000-6,000 adult volunteers, in 330 community-based Scout Groups.
