Local AM shows support for National Cycle Collection4.10.24pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 29th Jan 2007 Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has been to visit the National Cycle Collection in Llandrindod Wells, to draw attention to their important collection.
The local AM congratulated curator David Higman on his recent inclusion on the Queen's New Years Honours list and spent time discussing ideas for encouraging more people to cycle. Ms Williams said: "This fascinating and important collection deserves greater attention than it currently receives, and I will certainly be doing all I can to promote it. It would be greatly helped, for example, if it was properly signposted from the A483 and A44. "Seeing the displays of bicycles through the ages reminded me of how important it is to encourage people to cycle. It can bring great health benefits, and is so much better for the environment than getting in a car. Improved cycling promotion and education is vital, and many areas do need adaptation to make them safer for cyclists. I want people to come to Llandrindod to appreciate cycling's great history, but also to ensure that cycling as a means of transport has a future." Notes: Ms Williams visited the National Cycle Collection, at the Automobile Palace on Temple Street, on Thursday. David Higman received an MBE in the New Years Honours list for services to tourism in Wales.
