Local AM backs calls for more interactive Government

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, is backing her party's plans for greater use of the internet by Government.

The party is recommending monthly internet question time sessions with Ministers, in an effort to make Government more accessible and accountable.

Ms Williams said: "I know some of my constituents feel quite removed from discussions taking place in Cardiff Bay. The internet is a powerful tool for connecting people, and I would like to see it being used more effectively to bring Government to the people. People across the country, of all ages and all political persuasions, could and should be engaged in a dialogue with their Government, reminding Ministers of what is important to them.

"E-government should never take the place of regular public meetings and more traditional forms of communication, but it does have the potential to reach people who, for whatever reason, are not currently engaging in the political process. The internet offers opportunities to enhance and develop democracy, and that is something we all should welcome."
