"More effort needed to keep toilets open"

11.53.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 12th Jan 2007

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has written to the Transport Minister at the Assembly about the closure of toilets on the A470.

The facilities, which are the responsibility of the Assembly Government, have been closed for several months due to vandalism.

Ms Williams said: "Some people snigger when you tell them you're campaigning to keep toilets open, but for those communities in Powys who have seen theirs shut recently, they know it's no laughing matter. The toilets on the A470 are useful for walkers in the Beacons as well as for motorists, and their closure has made travelling in the area more awkward. I have asked the Minister to explain to me why these toilets have been closed for so long, and hope that he will act promptly to ensure the toilets are re-opened quickly, and maintained in good condition."
