Village of the Year awards - Kirsty Williams comment
10.42.20am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 2nd Nov 2006
Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, was delighted to attend the 2006 Calor Village of the Year for Wales ceremony, and watch a village from the constituency pick up an award.
The village of Bleddfa was awarded the top prize in the Community Life category at the ceremony in Cardiff, despite stiff competition from villages across Wales.
Ms Williams said: "I am delighted that Bleddfa has been awarded this prestigious prize, and would like to pay tribute to all those villagers who have contributed to this success. Life in rural communities is not always easy, but the people of Bleddfa work hard to make the most of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for residents, something which has clearly been recognised by the judging panel."
Notes:
The Calor Village of the Year - Wales competition is open to all villages with a population of 5,000 or less, who can choose to participate in up to six different categories. Bleddfa reached the final eight in two of the categories - Older People, and Community Life (the category which it subsequently won).
The awards were presented at a ceremony at St David's Hotel in Cardiff yesterday, which Ms Williams attended along with two members of the Bleddfa and Monaughty Events Committee.
