Partial success in Llanwrthwl safety campaign

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has given a cautious welcome to the news that there will now be some signage enhancements made around Llanwrthwl Junction.

The local AM has been a strong supporter of the Community Council's campaign to improve safety at the busy junction, off the A470, and has been lobbying both Powys County Council and the Assembly Government on the community's behalf.

Ms Williams said: "The Community Council produced a raft of sensible proposals to help improve the community's safety, and has engaged in mature and reasoned dialogue with the County Council and Government officials. I am pleased that some of their concerns have been taken on board, and that some improvements will now be made. It does not go as far as the Community Council was hoping, however, and it remains to be seen whether the improvements will meet the community's needs."

In response to her most recent letter to Transport Minister Andrew Davies, Ms Williams has been informed that: "The Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency met with the Community Council recently to hear their concerns and examine the site. It is now agreed that as well as some cutting back of vegetation around the junction and its existing signs, some further signing enhancements to significantly highlight the presence of the junction would be appropriate. The detail design of these signing enhancements is currently being discussed, and once the detail is agreed a bid can be submitted for resources in the next financial year. We currently anticipate that these signing enhancements can be installed next Spring."
