10.39.50am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 3rd Oct 2006

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, will be attending the Calor Village of the Year Awards next month, to support the Radnorshire village of Bleddfa.

The village has reached the finals of the competition, which seeks to recognise vibrant, enterprising, caring communities across the country.

Ms Williams said: "I am delighted that one of the villages in my constituency has reached the final eight of this competition, and will be wishing them every success on the day. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the hard work of all the villagers who've contributed to making Bleddfa such a worthy entry in this national competition."

Notes:

§ The Calor Village of the Year - Wales competition is open to all villages with a population of 5,000 or less, who can choose to participate in up to six different categories (Community Life, Business, Young People, Older People, the Environment and Information Communication Technology). Bleddfa has reached the final eight in two of the categories - Community Life and Older People.

§ The winners will be announced at a lunch event at St David's Hotel in Cardiff Bay on 31st October. Ms Williams will be in attendance along with two members of the Bleddfa and Monaughty Events Committee.
