Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed her concern over possible cuts in funding for the YFC in the constituency.
The local AM has written to Powys County Council after learning that the YFC may be forced to pull out of some communities if it sees its budgets reduced further.
Ms Williams said: "The YFC makes a huge contribution in providing youth services in the area. It saw a cut in its budget last year and I am concerned that any further cuts could seriously undermine the organisation's ability to continue its vital work. I cannot imagine Powys County Council would or could provide services directly to the young people in our most rural communities, so if the YFC were forced to pull out, those young people would be left with nothing."
