Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has successfully intervened to ensure that the toilets at Erwood will remain open.

Powys County Council had previously decided to close the popular local conveniences which, given their roadside location, are an extremely valued facility by those travelling from North to South Wales, or attending the Royal Welsh Showground.

Ms Williams said: "I was very concerned by the Council's decision to close these toilets, despite the opposition shown by local people at a recent public meeting. I made some enquiries and found that the Council had not applied for a £20,000 Assembly grant which could help keep the facilities open. I wrote to the First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, requesting his assistance, and I have now learnt that this grant will be made available to the Council, and the toilets will therefore remain open."
