Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed her concern at Powys Local Health Board's (LHB's) plan to stop preparing fresh food for patients at hospitals in the constituency.
The local AM has learnt that the LHB is considering switching to ready-prepared meals for patients, which would only need to be heated up on site.
Ms Williams said: "At a time when we are all increasingly aware of the importance of eating freshly prepared and locally sourced food, it seems crazy that the LHB is considering shipping in ready meals from goodness-knows where. Good nutrition is important to keep us all healthy, but it is surely vital to ensure those who are unwell receive the best possible food. I know the LHB is concerned that there needs to be a common approach to food in all hospitals, but surely the answer is to provide guidance to the hospital cooks, not demoralise and insult them by asking them to microwave ready-meals."
