1.21.56pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 24th Jul 2006
Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, is to meet with the Chief Fire Officer to discuss changes to the fire service in Mid Wales.
The Fire Authority are currently consulting on a new 'Risk Reduction Plan', which considers, among other things, changes to firefighters shift patterns and the status of different fire stations.
Ms Williams said: "I am looking forward to meeting with the Chief Fire Officer and discussing these issues in more detail, including the effect that these changes will have on frontline personnel. It is imperative that the new Plan will genuinely reduce the risk of fire in our communities and provide the best possible cover for the people of Mid Wales."
Notes:
The Mid and West Wales Fire Authority Draft Risk Reduction Plan 2007-10 was published earlier this month, and is currently out to consultation. It includes a wide range of proposals including changing Haverfordwest fire station to a day-crewed station, giving retained firefighters a salary, and introducing a new working routine at shift crewed fire stations.
Ms Williams will meet with the Chief Fire Officer this Friday (the 28th July) to discuss the proposals contained in the plan.
