Community's concerns deserve attention12.07.56pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 10th Jun 2006 Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed her support for Llanwrthwl Community Council's campaign to improve safety at the Llanwrthwl junction off the A470. The Community Council feel the erection of street lighting at the junction, and a fence at the bus stop, would improve safety at the site, but Powys County Council have refused to carry out the work. Ms Williams said: "Llanwrthwl Community Council have put forward some sensible proposals to improve safety in their area, and they deserve to have their concerns taken seriously. At the end of the day, no-one is in a better place to identify problems in an area than the people who live there. I look forward to meeting with them to discuss these issues further." Notes: Powys County Council have said that they are unable to erect street lighting in the area due to lack of funds, and the fact that no injury accidents have been reported at the sight, making it a low priority. The Community Council requested a fence at the bus stop as a precautionary measure for the children who wait for the school bus there. Powys County Council rejected their suggestion, saying a fence would "tend to look unsightly".
