Greener Wales bid blocked by Labour complacency10.12.06am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 22nd Mar 2006 Welsh Liberal Democrats proposals to give new momentum to Wales' economy and environment have been rejected by Labour in the Assembly. A series of common-sense proposals to boost Wales' economy while enhancing the environment, were put forward by Welsh Liberal Democrat AMs to persuade the Assembly government to make Wales a green world leader. Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said: "I am disappointed that the Labour Assembly Government is so complacent about its record on the environment. "Preserving our environment is something that will require action from all parties. It is too important an issue to allow ourselves to be distracted by petty squabbling. "Here was a chance to make a difference - improving quality of life for people while boosting the economy and the environment. But the Labour government rejected that chance. "Time is of the essence. We cannot afford to delay when the future of the planet is at stake."
