'Everyone deserves a night out'

12.01.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 14th Feb 2006

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has drawn attention to the problem many disabled people face accessing pubs and clubs in the constituency.

Following a meeting with the Brecknock Access Group last month, Ms Williams raised the issue with the Social Justice Minister at the Assembly.

Ms Williams said: "Being able to participate in social activities is an important way of preventing social exclusion. Disabled people enjoy a night out as much as anyone else, but the group I spoke to were concerned that Powys County Council are not using the new licensing laws to help improve access to pubs and clubs in the area. I asked the Minister to look at the problem, to see what can be done to ensure all those who want a night out can enjoy one."
