On Monday 23rd October Kirsty Williams, Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, met with a group of people looking to further regenerate Ystradgynlais.

In attendance was Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure in the Welsh Government. Also attending were local Councillors, the Chair of Ystradgynlais Town Council, members of the town regeneration group, and representatives from the local business sector.

The visit comes soon after the Welsh Government launched a new fund for economic regeneration – the Targeted Regeneration Investment programme. Around £7million will be made available to mid-Wales (the local authorities of Powys and Ceredigion). Local authorities and partner organisations can apply for the capital investment for projects to promote economic regeneration. Funding is available from April 2018.

Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:

“This new fund is a real opportunity for the Council.

“Ystradgynlais’ High Street has benefitted from a fantastic voluntary effort and is a perfect example of a community that could reach the next level with extra support.

“The Council needs to ensure this new fund is utilised in a way that benefits communities right across Powys, and I have contacted them to highlight this point and ask about their plans.”
