On March 28th the Ithon Birth Centre in Llandrindod Wells Hospital was officially opened.
Funding for the new facility came through a Welsh Liberal Democrat budget deal in the last Assembly term.
Powys teaching Health Board's business case has been approved by the Welsh Government and will result in £6.6million of Welsh Government funding.
Along with the new maternity unit, funding will also be used for other improvements such as extending and relocating outpatient facilities, improving waiting areas and improving accommodation for day case, endoscopy and dental departments.
Kirsty Williams said:
"I'm so pleased to see the birth centre officially opened. Unfortunately I couldn't make it on the day but I was lucky enough to have a preview a few months ago, and it should be a great facility for our mums to be."
