Disappointment as another bank turns its back on a rural community – Kirsty Williams

Kirsty Williams, AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, has expressed her disappointment at the news that Barclays is going to close its Llanwrtyd Wells Branch.

If the closure goes ahead it will mean the town is left without a bank. Residents will have to rely on the Post Office located at Llanwrtyd Wells Auto Services for their financial transactions.

Commenting, Kirsty Williams said:

“If this closure goes ahead it will be a real blow to the people and businesses in and around Llanwrtyd Wells. These banks should have a greater sense of loyalty to the people and businesses who set up accounts in good faith thinking they will be able to use a branch.

“These banks must not turn their backs on rural areas. Often, the people who use these branches will be elderly or not have access to internet banking. I will be requesting an urgent meeting with Barclays to urge them to reconsider this short sighted decision.”
